What is Lintunetti?
Lintunetti combines technology and birding: it is a web service I built (markussilvo.fi) where you can follow bird observations in real time. At its core are open-source BirdNET Pi devices that identify and record bird sounds around the clock, including at night when most of us are asleep.
I have always been interested in both technology and nature. Bird song has been a comfort to me since I was young. Wanting to see what usually goes unnoticed led to two stations in the Salo area: Keskusta listens to urban birdlife, Tupuri is a device in a tree capturing sounds in a more natural setting. The comparison shows how birdlife varies in different conditions.
On this site you can see the day’s observation chart and latest detections, and listen to recordings. The aim is to share knowledge about birds in Finland and let everyone follow observations: birders, researchers and anyone interested in nature. Development continues: the plan is to add statistics, more recordings and year-on-year comparisons.
The project is built on the BirdNET Pi platform and open-source solutions. Read more about the project’s story and journey with BirdNET Pi in the article.
